A Retreat Weekend For Women
An Experiential View of the Person of Jesus Christ
Presented by Father Eugene Lauer

One of the major ongoing impacts of the Second Vatican Council has been to move theologians and Scripture scholars to focus more on the role of experience than on philosophical argument in their work.  This movement has been especially significant in leading us to know Jesus in a deeper and more personal way.  On this weekend, we will examine how this new approach evolved from Vatican II and how it has led us to a more down-to-earth understanding of the person of Jesus and, we trust, to a deeper intimacy with Him.

Fr. Eugene Lauer, a priest of the diocese of Pittsburgh, had the rare experience of doing his doctoral studies in Rome during the last two years of the Second Vatican Council.  This experience has had a tremendous impact on the various ministries he has been involved in through the years: recently completed three-year term as director of the National Pastoral Life Center in New York, Director of the Hesburgh Renewal Center at the University of Notre Dame for seventeen years.  He began his ministry as a parish priest in his home diocese, serving in both inner-city and suburban parishes. After completing his doctorate in historical theology at the Gregorian university in Rome, he served on the faculties of both Duquesne University and LaRoche College  in Pittsburgh, Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Indiana University in PA,  Wheeling Jesuit University, Catholic Theological Union in Chicago and the University of Notre Dame.  Author of four books and numerous articles on the relationship between theological and pastoral ministry, he lectures frequently on such topics to a wide variety of audiences.  He is presently involved in theological and pastoral ministry in his home diocese of Pittsburgh.

Clowning Around Rereat Day
Presented by Sister Concetta Fabo, OSF

Hear, Ye! Hear Ye!  All you, adult clowns—ages 21+!  Come and celebrate your call!  Are there clowns in the Gospels?  Did Jesus clown around with his disciples?  Did you ever feel like God was clowning around with you?  Is there a theology of clowning?  If there is one, who is the King of Clowns? Receive answers to these questions.  Also,  find the clown in yourself!  Send in the clowns!

10:00 am to 3:00 pm

Offering: $35.00 Praying into the New Year

Prayer Shawl - and Sundry - Ministry

This God activity will enter its third year and, if you knit or crochet, you are welcome to join our group.  We have made afghans for veterans at Veterans Hospital, veterans at Chapel House in Auburn and have been making items to give to new mothers and babies at Joseph House in Syracuse when it opens.  As we are involved in this ministry, we are reminded of the inspired words from Psalm 139:13:  “You knit me in my mother’s womb.”  How about that for a way to describe God’s creation!  And your creativity?
For additional information or questions please contact Sister Concetta at the retreat center.
